Teen Therapy
It's no secret that being a teenager can be really tough at times. It's a constant juggling act between getting school work done, socializing, going to activities, thinking about and planning for the future, and getting to know oneself in the process. The teens that come to me for Counseling tend to worry a lot about being able to get everything done, do a great job, and keep up with their peers. Sometimes they struggle with being a perfectionist and putting extra pressure on themselves; sometimes my adolescent clients have high levels of anxiety and sometimes even panic attacks. Teens also come to me when they're struggling socially, or when they experience so much anxiety during school (during presentations, when needing to participate in class, or even with their friends and peers) that it tends to effect their ability to be productive and feel happy. I believe that teens deserve to be happy and live fulfilling lives, and helping them to better understand themselves and cope with their challenges is what makes my work so rewarding. Let's help you or your teen to feel more in control of yourself and the seemingly endless list of things to do. I also provide support and skills for preparing for the college experience while a Junior or Senior in High School. No need to procrastinate on feeling ready mentally and emotionally to take on the new challenges of College!!
I offer confidential counseling individually to teen clients, and I'm happy to work with the family as well. I like my families to understand that teenagers need a place where they can receive non-judgmental support; the ability to speak to an adult who has their best interests at heart and will keep the things that they say to me confidential. Of course there are always exceptions to this, such as the teen talking about things that can put them in immediate risk...the exceptions are discussed clearly at the first meeting. If the parents of the teens want to be a part of the work we do together then we can incorporate that as well, in a way that will not compromise their privacy but allow you to be a supportive part of the process, as parents. In addition, sometimes parent(s) choose to have the whole family come in so we can work together on communicating more effectively and respectfully, and I'm happy to speak to you about that as well.
Please keep on the lookout for groups and workshops geared towards helping teens to navigate the often murky waters of being an adolescent. Among topics will be Mindfulness, test anxiety, social anxiety, and preparing to launch for College (College Bound).
