Family Therapy
I have worked with many families including parents, step-parents, and children who come to me wanting a more peaceful and cohesive home environment. Sometimes tempers flair or miscommunications occur and it's helpful to get some assistance with being able to communicate more effectively. There are also times when a child or teenager is brought to me for therapy and it is determined that it would be most effective in their treatment to have the rest of the family involved as well. Working with the whole family, or just the parents when appropriate, can provide an added level of success and alleviation of the problem by having everyone participate.
I approach the family with the knowledge that families are systems, therefore everyone effects everyone else. Amazing things can happen when everyone comes together for a common goal. If one person is experiencing symptoms of anxiety or depression, for example, then it is also very helpful to have the family involved so that they can support the changes that are being made by that one person in the family. Families have strengths that they often don't recognize, but when identified and utilized, they can make a world of difference in everyone's lives.
If you suspect that your family may need some help, please don't hesitate to contact me to discuss your needs.
